Blackburn Senior Womens
Women’s Football at Blackburn FC
At Blackburn Football Club, our Women’s Football program is built on a foundation of inclusion, support, and opportunity. Whether you’re an experienced player or completely new to the game, we welcome all women to be part of our football family.
After bringing home the 2025 Women's Veterans Premiership, we continue to work to ensure that every woman who wants to play has a place at Blackburn. More than just a team, we’re a community—a place where you’ll build friendships, challenge yourself, and experience the fun and camaraderie of footy.
THE COMPETITIVE TEAM - CHASING PREMIERSHIP GLORY
With a strong core of returning players, talented Under 18s stepping up to seniors, and experienced recruits looking for a new club to call home, our Division 2 team is ready to make a serious impact in 2026.
Following a season where finals were within reach, there is a hunger within the group to take things to the next level. A strong preseason fitness program is already in full swing, and players in this team are expected to commit to two training sessions per week.
The goal? Push for finals and take home the Division 2 flag.
THE VETERANS TEAM - FOOTY FOR LIFE
For women over 35, footy is still very much on the cards!
The EFNL Veterans competition has continued to grow since its inaugural start in 2020.
This year the league is fielding seven teams and with the participation in women’s football continuing to grow, so will the Masters competition.
Our Veterans team is designed for those who want to stay active, compete and be part of a great community. The team trains twice a week for those who can attend both, with the main training session being on Thursday Night. During the season Thursday training is followed by team selection and a casual dinner with all senior teams and gives our players a chance to be social.
Matches are played fortnightly, and with the "Catch and Release" tackle rule, the focus is on fun, skill and participation with less risk of injury.
The Veterans team has built a strong reputation as a successful and supportive team and Blackburn Football Club is widely known as a popular destination club due to its commitment and development in women’s football.
Our history has seen us play two Grand Finals in 2023 and in 2025. The 2025 Grand Final was a rematch from 2023 and this time we proved we were too strong winning our first premiership flag.
Whether you’ve played before or are picking up a footy for the first time, you’ll be supported by fantastic coaches. Our Head Coach Dave, the 2023 Whitehorse City Council Coach of the Year recipient for his work with women learning to play footy. Dave is supported by our two Assistant Coaches Danielle and Melissa, each coming from a playing background and strong knowledge of game strategy, skill development and player support.
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT
As our Junior Girls program continues to expand, we’re incredibly excited about the future of women’s football at Blackburn FC. With a growing talent pipeline and a strong, supportive culture, success is just around the corner.

In summer we can’t wear boots, just runners.
BYO water and sunscreen.
All new players start in our Masters (over 35s) training squad. This allows you to get the hang of AFL in a safe and easy environment. (There are a lot of laughs in this gang.)
Thursdays are our main night to train, especially for Newbies and Masters. If you are under 35 you can shift to our senior’s team when you feel confident.
In 2024 we hope to field 2 Senior Women’s teams including a very competitive Division 2 team. If you are an experienced player, then please let us know your playing history so we can fast track you into this team at training.
We also intend to field a second team that welcomes women new to footy. This will be great for women who have never played, or prefer to play at a lower level while you get back into football / recover from injury / manage a heavy study or work schedule.
BFC are grateful to have a range of local sponsors who enable us to offer much lower player costs. (Members in financial difficulty can approach BFC for further support.)
While the costs are a lot less than other sports it is important to be transparent. This is everything:
Player Registration
• Seniors (18+) $250
• Masters ($35) $150
• Socks $20
• Shorts $45
• EFNL Registration $25 – covers insurance for all club games and training.
Other costs:
Mouthguards are mandated by EFNL. Many players with private health insurance get them free at their dentist which is the best choice. BFC also usually partners with a local specialist service who visits the club and to take orders. Rebel and Chemists also have a range that can be bought off the shelf.
Football boots are a must of course; Ambulance membership is recommended for all sports.
Lastly the club has a range merchandise strongly encouraged for game day and training. Players are proud to wear a BFC jumper to games and a training top with their name. This has built our team culture enormously and unites us as The Red Army.
Please do! There is no better way to see how friendly and welcoming our gang is until you rock up to a training session. Ideally contact us in advance to make it easier for everyone.
Read our Player Profiles to be reminded how our best players only regret was not getting involved sooner or waiting till someone invited them. Don’t wait – No regrets!
All community sport runs on volunteers. This keeps costs down. But none of the roles are mandatory. As players we cover a roster of volunteer jobs, and each person averages once per month. Usually, the role is done by your family or friends while you play. Alternatively, you can strike a swapsie deal with a player in another team to cover for each other.
The roster covers activities like updating the score board, bringing oranges or lollies and waving goal flags. No-one is ever asked to take a responsibility they do not feel equipped to do. The club has a large enough community of volunteers and provide game day training for family or friends who step in as volunteers. Umpires are paid and provided by the league.
If you have capacity to volunteer in other ways you are made very welcome. Just approach a committee member.
